Big KRIT has returned with the sequel to his critically acclaimed, KRIT Wuz Here, and anointed our ears with The Return of 4eva. Taking some of the same elements that were used in the previous musical selection, KRIT has crafted a sound that mixes Pimp C's style and Talib Kweli's thought pattern with Kanye West type beats. Utilizing the soul feel with Southern swag, KRIT has undoubtedly proven that he is more than capable of being a threat in this music industry. Not bad for a rapper from Mississippi!!!

Subject Matter

Captonious Monk Says: The one thing I can say about The Return of 4eva is that I can tell that KRIT put a lot of thought into the message that he wanted people to hear when listening to his album. The Return of 4eva touches on a wide array of subjects that separate itself from the normal Southern style album. A song like “American Rapstar” takes the listener on a journey through the life of a prototypical rapper and the stereotypical things that they encounter. Then you have a song like “Lions and Lambs” where the decision to enter the Drug Game comes with its own share of consequences. Even with its deep subject matter, The Return of 4eva does have some SouthernPlayalistic selections that glorify the Southern region that KRIT is from. “My Sub” is a song that you have to ride down the street with the volume as high as it can go with, playing in the background. And the list goes on and on.

Xavier Mon'wel says: In KRIT's new album "The Return of 4eva", I recognized the theme and content in which KRIT wanted his audience to hear. Touching on a plethora of subjects, KRIT has discovered an innovative way to separate himself from the often time "stereotypical" southern artist. With the song "Dreamin", KRIT gave his listeners a brief 4 minute summary of how he began his music career. Throughout the song, he revisits times of writing, struggling & recording, and also receiving negative feedback. Then in his song "Another Naive Individual Glorifying Greed & Encouraging Racism" KRIT simply explains why he doesn't want to be A.N.I.G.G.E.R. While songs like these give humbling inspirational messages, KRIT also has smooth southern influenced songs such as "Rotation" that make u feel as if you own a candy painted box Chevy with 24's, cruising through the streets.

Production

Captonious Monk says: After hearing KRIT Wuz Here, I had high hopes for The Return of 4eva when it comes to beats. I can honestly say I was not disappointed. Big KRIT knows what sound he wants to have and how to execute it. The Return of 4eva embodies that sound to a tee. The beats offer the listener a strong dose of Soul with a strong Houston type feel. “Dreamin” has an old school Ghetto Boys feel to it and “Sookie Now” just has that feel where you can't sit down. You have to move. And the feeling is marinated throughout the whole album. That's impressive for a 21 track album.

Xavier Mon'wel says: One word description: AMAZING! If there was one thing everyone can agree on regarding "The Return of 4eva" it would be the classic and timeless production. Throughout the album, KRIT gives us soulful, melodic compositions. With a song like "Players Ballad", the listener can hear a smooth 1960's rhythmic pattern while enjoying the "Mack Daddy" voice that Raheem DeVaughn delivers as a feature. On the flip side, a song like "Made Alot" has that bounce, bass, and shake that alot of people enjoy. I believe that production is Big KRIT's strongest attribute, and it's evident throughout the album.

Creativity

Captonious Monk says: Now if you are expecting Nas/Lupe Fiasco deep type of lyrics with major metaphoric meaning, then this album might fall below your expectations. That being said Big KRIT lyrics on The Return of 4eva do not fall in no shape or fashion. KRIT may not be the greatest of lyricist but he sure isn't no where near the worst. He blends his Southern style with thought provoking feel to give you the same feeling as if you were listening to A Tribe Called Quest. His words evoke power that makes you listen such as the song “Another Naive Individual Glorifying Greed & Encouraging Racism”. The strong concept is KRIT's way of being critical of our people stereotypes and how we play to them. KRIT is a straight up rapper. Instead of dancing around his topics, he gets straight to the point. Depending on how you view hip hip, you're either with it or not. But the music is still good enough to overtake whatever feeling you might have.

Grade: B+

Xavier Mon'wel says: The one critique that seems to be more widespread amongst southern artists is their lyricism. Although KRIT is no Eminem or Nas, he still delivers a message that is relatable. Throughout "Return of 4eva" KRIT has compiled his own way of saying and delivering his message to the masses. We've all heard traditional, cliché similes regarding life. However, in "Highs and Lows" KRIT was able to compare life to an equalizer. Wonder if anyone has done that? As I like to say, KRIT isn't a puzzling rapper, but his message is forth coming and straight to the point. There isn't anything to complex about it. At the end of the day it's still Hip-Hop.

Grade: B

Overall Talent

Captonious Monk says: Big KRIT is a breath of fresh air in the ever evolving landscape of Hip Hop. The melodic soul that he brings to the game separates him from his peers. KRIT offers the listener an old school feel with a modern day perspective. The Return of 4eva proves that KRIT is a consistent entity to be reckoned with for years to come. This body of work proves that no matter where the artist is from, good music is still existent in all areas.

Grade: A-

Xavier Mon'wel says: Big KRIT is one of a kind. His talent is limitless, and he can go as far as he allows himself. While many artists these days have allowed themselves to be nothing more than carbon copies of Lil Wayne or more recently Wiz Khalifa, KRIT has remained himself. Acknowledging that he is a nothing more than country boy, KRIT has made timeless music. His soulful music blended with a present day mind, and mixed with all the potential and humble beginnings, assure that KRIT's stock will continue to rise and the Return of 4eva will never depart.
